We welcomed over 75 people to Merri Home during Sustainable House Day, thank you to everyone who came by, asked thoughtful questions, and shared in the conversations throughout the day.

The day was a great opportunity to share conversations around sustainable living, Passivhaus design, and the realities of creating healthier, high-performing homes. Luke shared insights into the design process at Merri Home, exploring sustainability, biophilic design, and the unique experience of being both owner-builder and designer

At EME, sustainability is about much more than energy ratings or checklists. It’s about contributing to a bigger conversation around better homes, healthier living, and future-focused design.

Through events like Sustainable House Day, we love opening up conversations around Passive House principles, energy efficiency, and biophilic design sharing ideas, lessons, and real experiences from our projects.

Opening our projects to the community through tours and open house events, sharing knowledge and learnings from real homes and real outcomes.

Awareness through Collaboration
Working alongside Melbourne University, Merri Home has been monitored for thermal performance, energy use, and indoor air quality  helping demonstrate how thoughtful design performs through real data.

Transparency
Sharing results, learnings, and design thinking openly to inspire homes that are beautiful, comfortable, ecological, and resilient for the future.

One of the biggest takeaways from the day was seeing how engaged and informed people are becoming around sustainability and Passivhaus design. It’s encouraging to see growing awareness and interest in healthier, high-performing homes — and we hope these principles continue becoming the standard for future housing.
