Passive House Pavilion in Balnarring

Balnarring Beach 2022

Located just minutes from Balnarring Beach, this Passive House project sits on a uniquely angled corner site. After exploring multiple design iterations, the final layout orients all living and bedroom spaces to the north, a key decision in achieving exceptional thermal performance. With a heating demand below 13 kWh/m²a, the home surpasses Passive House standards thanks to a rigorous passive design process, tested and refined from the earliest stages.

The pavilion reflects the clients’ character, combining contemporary design with a deep connection to nature. Large openings frame views of majestic native trees, while flexible spaces invite daily rituals from cooking to gathering to unfold with a constant dialogue between inside and out.

Our Passive House design approach carefully considers every detail, from insulation values and high-performance glazing to airtightness and thermal bridge-free construction. The result is a home that is not only energy-efficient but also beautifully responsive to its setting, offering year-round comfort with minimal environmental impact.
