UNTITLED 344

Northcote, 2017

An existing heritage home in Northcote is reinterpreted and morphed to encapsulate a new footprint accommodating a growing family. The new extension cloaks the existing building with a folded gable form – creating a dialogue between the new and old building form, without mimicking. The gable cloak soars down to the earth, grounding the building, while elements are also eroded to create lightness.

The internal detailing and design respects the heritage architecture and materiality by expressing the honesty of materials and connections. This very specific and particular detailing creates an expressive and raw tectonic, generating interest and beauty both inside and out.
