Outstanding Energy Efficient Design of 2016!
We are delighted to share with you the news! Artisan Apartments won Best Energy Efficient Design Award – Residential category at the BDAV 2016 Awards, as it is a great exemplar of best practice design.
Conceived in 2008, the exceptional energy ratings reveal a building ahead of its time. Highly insulated reverse concrete construction optimises the use of thermal mass and its average rating of 8.7 stars will result in 1.2M kgs of CO2 abated over 25 years compared with a 6 star design. The Artisan is sculpted by light and air to provide every apartment with cross-ventilation and north facing living.
According to the judges:
“It was gratifying to see how many submissions in this year’s Awards recognised the importance of good energy performance as an integral feature of any building laying claim to design excellence. However, many claims for passive solar design and high insulation levels were not supported by solid evidence such as accredited NaTHERS energy ratings. Which is certainly not the case for this worthy winner of the Best Energy Efficient Design in the residential category. In the case of the Artisan Apartments, careful attention to features such as solar access, thermal mass, and orientation have delivered outstanding energy ratings of 8-9 stars for each individual apartments. At a time when Melbourne is experiencing a boom in mid-rise apartment developments, Artisan Apartments really does provide an iconic case study of best practice design for energy efficiency.” – BDAV Judges
